Operate & Maintain a 4WD Vehicle

This course is designed for the Resources, Mining & Infrastructure Sector, and gives the relevant qualification required by many mine sites.
Cost: $425.00 per Student (1 Day + e-learning) if you or your staff have not got access to a computer, no problem, all competencies will still be covered in 1 day. A 4WD Vehicle with Low Range is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle. 

Students will spend over 90% of time in the field learning practical skills and techniques.   Learning activities consist of, but not limited to:

  • Pre journey planning
  • Environmental issues relating to 4wd usage
  • Route Selection & Correct convoy procedures
  • 4wd Systems both Part-Time and Full-time & all related functions regarding both High range & Low range use
  • Correct use of Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control Systems
  • Factors relating to mechanical issues with inappropriate use of 4wd features
  • Load security (External & Internal) & identifying correct driving posture
  • Pre-departure checks and the required actions for identified deficiencies.
  • Driving through rough rugged terrain, deep water ruts, very steep and loose terrain safely while minimising environmental damage.
  • Water crossing safety
  • Factors relating to correct tyre pressures in varying terrain
  • Stop stall key start recovery procedure.
  • Single snatch strap recovery 
  • Identifying correct recovery points

Drive A Vehicle

This course involves the skills and knowledge required to drive commercial and non commercial light vehicles (4WD) and cars safely, including the systematic, safe and efficient control of all vehicle functions.
$345.00 per Student (1 Day) 4WD Vehicle or 2WD vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you (please note, if you or your staff are going to work on a mine site a 4WD vehicle is required) maximum of 3 students per vehicle. 

Students will spend over 70% of class time in the field learning practical skills and techniques. Learning activities consist of, but not limited to: 

  • Pre-departure checks and the required actions for identified deficiencies.
  • Correct Seating Posture
  • Correct scanning techniques & fatigue management
  • Identifying risk factors
  • Night Time driving safety awareness
  • Safe driving factors relating to wildlife and livestock
  • 4wd vehicle sytems and operation (Part-Time & Full-Time 4wd)
  • Driving and braking techniques on hardtop surfaces
  • Correct & Safe Driving techniques for gravel roads
  • Emergency braking on gravel roads or loose surfaces
  • Correct operation of ABS, Traction Control & Electronic stability programs
  • Vehicle housekeeping including load restraints
  • Correct and safe operation of a vehicle jack
  • Driver Assessment on gravel and sealed road surfaces

 

Gravel Road Induction Program (GRIP)

Includes emergency braking practice & techniques on gravel roads. This 4WD Course is site specific and used on many mine sites.
$325.00 + $32.50 GST per Student (1 Day) 4WD Vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle.

Drive and Recover a 4WD Vehicle 

This 4WD Course gives the relevant qualification required by many mine sites.

$425.00 Per Student (1 Day + e-learning) 4WD Vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle.

Students will spend over 90% of class time in the field learning practical skills and techniques. Learning activities consist of, but not limited to: 

  • Plan for four-wheel driving
  • Perform pre-departure checks and take the required actions to identify deficiences
  • Drive in a variety of terrain types, water ruts and water, loose gravel and rocky areas.
  • Correct seating and driving posture
  • Driving in a variety of terrains , deep water ruts and water, loose gravel and rocky areas.
  • Wheel placement techniques
  • Stop stall key start recovery procedure
  • Single snatch strap vehicle recovery
  • Demonstrate correct procedures for joing 2 snatch straps
  • Identifying suitable recovery points

Drive A 4WD Vehicle In Difficult Terrain

1 Day Course - 4WD Vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle.

$425 Per Person (1 day)

This course is for experienced four wheel drivers who require the skills to drive in difficult terrain.  It is recommended (although not compulsory) that this course is scheduled concurrently with SISODRV405A.  All training for this course is completed in the field learning practical skills and techniques.   Learning activities consist of, but not limited to: 

  • Pre journey planning
  • Convoy procedures
  • Pre-departure checks and the required actions for identified deficiencies.
  • Maintenance and minor repairs to include safe use of a jack and changing a wheel.
  • Driving in difficult terrain such as steep inclines and declines, cross slope driving involving irregular terrain, very rough rocky ground and slippery inclines /declines.
  • Choosing suitable routes to safely traverse with minimal environmental impact.
  • Advanced guidance techniques
  • Advanced techniques requiring track maintanence & wheel placement
  • Perform stall stop, forward and reverse key starts and hand brake starts. 
  • Perform tyre puncture repairs (tubeless tyres)

 

Course Code: SISODRV405A (FORMALLY SRODRV003B)

Co-ordinate Recovery of  4WD Vehicles

1 Day Course - 4WD Vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle.

The above two courses are generally delivered together and are for more advanced 4WDriving. Vehicles need to fitted with recovery points and have sufficient ground clearance. *Pre requiste for this course is SISODRV302A*
$425.00 Per Student per day (2 days)

This course is designed for any personnel who are required to drive in difficult terrain and may be required to use advanced vehicle recovery gear or recovery techniques.  It is recommended (Although not compulsory) that this course is scheduled concurrently with SRODRV002B.  All training for this course is completed in the field learning practical skills and techniques.   Learning activities consist of, but not limited to: 

  • Safe working practices and identification of danger zones when performing vehicle recoveries in difficult terrain with minimal environmental impact.
  • Snatch strap recovery up a steep incline.
  • Advanced recovery involving more than 1 Strap/equipment
  • Identifying suitable attachment points for recovery of vehicle / vehicles
  • Winch recovery using ground anchor points or trees (Electric & Hand Winch)
  • Demonstration of snatch blocks to gain a 2 to 1 pulley system with both Hand & Electric winches
  • Use of a Hi-lift jack and exhaust jack to include associated risk such as equipment failure, or the potential for vehicle roll over or sliding
  • Working with tyre pressures to assist with vehicle recovery
  • Advanced maintenance techniques required for equipment cleaning, cable rolling or greasing/oiling.

 

Course Code: TLIC2025A (formally TLIC2507B)

Operate  4WD Vehicle

This course is very similar to SROODRV001B above and is suitable for anybody operating a 4WD light vehicle (LV) on a mine or construction site.
$425.00 per Student (1 Day) 4WD Vehicle is required for the course. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle available Eureka can provide one for you - maximum of 3 students per vehicle.

Course Code SISODRV201A

Drive AWD/4WD vehicles on unsealed roads

This course is aimed at mine sites and town councils. students will spend over 80% of class time in the field learning practical skills and driving techniques.

  • Perform pre-operational checks
  • Apply safe loading practices and secure personal items
  • Operate Vehicle
  • Drive on bitumen,formed dirt roads and small inclines to 15 degrees
  • Negotiate water crossings safely while minimising environmental impact
  • Driving and braking techniques appropriate to terrain
  • Perform Maintenance and minor repairs
  • Carry out visual inspections and operational checks
  • Vehicle jack is located, used and operated according to manufacturer's instructions
  • Perform wheel removal and / or replacement
  • Faults / malfunctions corrected and / or reported
