Once you have finished please take a look around the site,
we have some great
4WD Courses and
Campfire
Tours.
The pictures below are screen shots taken
from my own setup in Oziexplorer.
I use the Garmin 2 Plus GPS. You will need to change some
settings
to suit your own requirements, but I hope the following helps.

9 Pages/Tabs of Configurations: (Ver
3.90.0 Now has 10)

New Page with Map Images set up in Ver 3.90

I have an old
Pentium 2 laptop which works fine. I have mounted it on a board with door seal
rubber around the base to take up the shocks from corrugations. Make sure you
cut a few gaps in the rubber so that the computer can breath or it will
overheat. I have also made a lid/screen support with velcro attached, because I
found that the screen kept banging shut and it broke the hinges. Almost any
computer will do but one's with less than Pentium 2 are very slow in loading map
images.
The best
software that I can recommend to you is Oziexplorer and it's either available
from their web site at
http://www.oziexplorer.com/ or
from the Chart and Map Shop in Collie St Fremantle. Price $130 approx.
You will also
require the latest 2 x CD set of NATMAPS 250,000:1 (530 Maps) again available
from the above places. Price $99 approx.
Once you have
these you will need to download the 2 sets of configuration files (FREE) for CD1
& CD2 from the Oziexplorer web site on the Australian Page.
Please remember, DON'T
rely solely on electronic navigation. Have paper maps of the areas you intend
to visit plus a compass and learn how to use them.
I have written a couple of navigation
stories for Western 4WDriver magazine in editions 39 & 40 which may be of some
assistance. Back issues are available on line from
http://www.western4wdriver.com.au or I can recommend a good book called "On
Track" by Geoffrey Archer & Raymond Williams available from Chart and Map Shop
in Collie St Fremantle. I suggest you phone first re price and stock on
(08) 9335 8665.
Hope this helps
and have a great safe trip.
Now you have worked that lot out, you can
have a look at the 3D version.
