Advanced 4WD Recovery & Sand Driving

The Advanced 4WD Recovery and Sand course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to tackle challenging off-road conditions safely and confidently. The program covers all stages of preparation and operation, beginning with pre-journey planning, pre-departure checks, and the actions required to address any identified vehicle deficiencies. Participants will develop advanced driving techniques for soft sand, steep inclines, and boggy terrain, along with the ability to select safe and environmentally responsible routes. The course also focuses on convoy procedures, load restraint, seating posture, and safe working practices, including identifying danger zones during recovery operations. Learners will perform advanced recovery methods involving multiple straps and equipment, winch recoveries using ground anchors or trees, and gain hands-on experience with snatch blocks, Hi-Lift jacks, exhaust jacks, and traction boards. The program also includes tyre pressure management, equipment selection, and water crossing preparation and safety, ensuring participants are fully prepared for real-world 4WD recovery challenges.

Grp3 - Off-Road Soft Terrain Driving & Advanced Recovery Course

Designed for commercial drivers operating in remote and coastal environments, this course focuses on sand driving and advanced off-road recovery techniques required when operating 4WD vehicles in soft sand and dune terrain.

Participants will develop practical skills in snatch strap recoveries, winching operations, the use of recovery boards, and self-recovery techniques, with a strong emphasis on correct setup, communication, and safety procedures. The course also covers tyre pressure selection and management to suit soft sand conditions, vehicle load, and terrain, along with driving techniques for soft sand and dune environments, including momentum control and safe route selection.

Environmental responsibility is reinforced throughout the course, including minimising track damage, protecting dune systems, and adhering to site and land-use requirements. This training is ideal for personnel who may be required to recover vehicles or operate in sandy, remote, or high-risk locations, building confidence, competence, and safe recovery practices in real-world conditions.
