GROUP 3: Off-Road Soft Terrain Driving & 4WD Recovery Course

Learning Outcomes

  • Pre-Requisite: Group 1 course
  • FWPCOT3326 : Recover four wheel drive vehicle
  • FWPCOT3329 : Perform complex four wheel drive operations

Entry Requirements

__________________

  • All driver participants are required to hold a valid Australian or international drivers licence.
  • All driver participants are required to have completed Group 1 prior

 

Learning Activities

__________________

  • Completion of Group 1 as per activities
  • Pre-Journey planning
  • Pre-Departure checks and the required actions for identified deficiencies
  • Convoy procedures
  • Driving in soft boggy terrain, steep inclines and declines and soft sand driving techniques
  • Choosing suitable routes to safely traverse with minimal environmental impact
  • Advanced techniques requiring track maintenance and wheel placement
  • Perform stall-start, forward and reverse key starts, and brake starts
  • Load restraint
  • Seating posture
  • Safe working practices and identification of danger zones when performing vehicle recoveries in difficult terrain
  • Demonstrate Snatch strap recovery up a steep incline
  • Advanced recovery involving more than 1 strap and/or equipment
  • Identifying suitable attachment points for recovery of vehicle/s
  • Winch recovery using ground anchor points or trees (Electric Winch)
  • Demonstration of snatch blocks to gain mechanical advantage
  • Use of a Hi-Lift jack, Exhaust jack and traction boards
  • Working with tyre pressures and equipment selection
