This course is tailored for individuals who are already familiar with the type of truck used in training, possess hands-on experience in mechanical industries, have a solid grasp of road rules or are quick learners confident in completing the training within a shorter timeframe.
It is specifically designed to help participants obtain their Heavy Rigid vehicle licence. The program combines theoretical learning, practical driving instruction, and a final driving assessment conducted by an assessor approved by the Department of Transport.
This is the most challenging of all the HR licence options, qualifying you to drive all types of HR vehicles, including those fitted with the traditional 18 gear Road Ranger manual transmission.
Due to the difficulty in learning this gearbox we do not recommend this option for beginners unless you must.
By the end of the course, participants will have gained the essential skills and knowledge to operate a heavy rigid vehicle safely and competently, in full compliance with relevant state and territory transport regulations.
Pathway
A Heavy Rigid (HR class) vehicle licence allows you to drive a:
- Heavy Rigid (HR) vehicle with 3 or more axles and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than 8,000 kg
- Medium Rigid (MR) vehicle
- Light Rigid (LR) vehicle
- Car
- Moped.
You can also tow a trailer with a maximum GVM of 9,000 kg.
